GET ORGANIZED

If your life feels stagnant and you don't feel as though you are moving forward with your goals and dreams, you might want to take a look around you at your space and the things in it.  Those "THINGS" could be holding you back from getting to where you want to be in life because everything in your space holds energy whether it is positive or negative.

Once you get organized,  your mind will become clearer as a result.

Signs you need to get organized:

1. Your living space is cluttered and disorganized. For many of us, organization problems are not confined to the garage and storage shed. If your disorganization has spread into your living space it may be time to go through the house and get rid of items you no longer need. Whether you make some extra money with a yard sale or simply give the unneeded items to charity you will feel much better about your life and your living space. My Gal, Sal can donate the items for you and give you the tax receipt.

2. It’s been years since your cars have been allowed in the garage. The first signs of disorganization often make their appearance in the garage, so be on the lookout for growing problems in this important part of the home. A garage should provide a safe place to park your car, not a haven for old bicycles and broken pieces of furniture and stuff.

3. You can’t get into your storage shed(s). A storage shed can be a wonderful solution to a looming storage problem, but if those storage sheds are stuffed full it may be time to clean them out and gain some much needed space. It is easy to just throw unneeded items in a storage shed and forget about them, and that can result in a brand new lack of storage space. Going through the storage shed on an annual basis is a great way to make the most of your space.

4. You have a storage unit or two that you pay for monthly and you haven't been in it for a year or more and or you don't even know what is in it.

5. You cringe when you have to find the items you need like your car keys. If finding the Christmas lights has become a bigger chore than finding the perfect Christmas presents it may be a sign that you need to get your life organized. Putting all of the Christmas lights and other decorations in their own space will help you find the stuff you need whenever they are needed.

6. You have trouble locating needed paperwork. From tax records to credit card receipts to investment records, there are many important documents in our lives. The ability to find those needed documents quickly is essential, and the inability to find those needed items is a sure sign of a disorganized life. A few three ring binders and a bookcase can make short work of those organization problems, and organizing important paperwork is a great start for any organizing project.

7. You know there is a desk under all those papers but you just can’t find it. If your desk is nothing but a series of paper piles, it may be time to get organized. An organized work life is just as important as an organized home life, and disorganization at work can easily spill over to the home.

8. You find yourself buying things you already have. From little things like scissors and pens to home appliances like blenders and toaster ovens, if you find yourself buying new instead of using what you have you may have a storage problem. We all lose track of what we own from time to time, but if this happens frequently it may be time to get organized. A disorganized life can also be an expensive one, and implementing a realistic organization strategy can save you money as well as time.

9. There are rooms you never show to guests or maybe you just keep those room doors closed all the time. Having a large home can be great, but a big house can also provide a ready excuse for not getting organized. It is all too tempting to simply throw those unneeded and seasonal items into a spare bedroom, and this can quickly get out of control. If you find yourself with one or more rooms that you are ashamed of it may be time to go through that clutter and get rid of unneeded items.

10. You have trouble finding a home for your new clothes. Messy closets are another common sign of a disorganized home, and it can be difficult to find a proper space for all those clothes. If the closets in your home have become home to not only clothes but other items as well it may be a good idea to organize those other items and store them properly. I can also work with you to simplify your wardrobe and donate those clothes you keep on

11. You have clothes in your closet for when you lose weight. Lets face it. We all have  clothes that are too small. You know, those ones that have been hanging there for years.  The more you hold on to them the more you find yourself "thinking about losing weight".  Any Health Coach will tell you that constant thoughts of losing weight is very unhealthy for your mind, body, energy and your soul.  There are so many charitable organizations that will gladly accept your clothes and give them to those in need. I will work with you to simplify your closet and arrange your clothes and shoes the proper way. When we have decided which items can be donated,  I will catalog the items (for your taxes) and then arrange for the donation pick up and give you the tax receipt.

12 You use your car trunk and back seats as storage.

13. You have old paint, old cables, computers, monitors, that is not being used or is not compatible with your new systems.  I will arrange for the proper recycling of all these items.

14. You have expired foods in your pantry.

15. You have a supply of empty vases, jars, plastic containers, coffee cans, craft supplies, hobby supplies, memory book kits you bought a long time ago and you are "still" planning to use them.

Hoarders Welcome!

Are you a Hoarder OR do you have a family member who is?

People who hoard (or stockpile large accumulations of stuff in their homes) are more than just bad housekeepers. Hoarding is more than just a cluttered home. It can grow to be so overpowering that people living in the house barely exist. Some even have to walk sideways to get through the rooms because of all the mountains of stuff. Hoarding usually starts in a closet, basement or spare room and then, eventually, takes over every room of the house. As mounds of useless items continue to climb toward the ceiling, making a home no longer a home. Not only is hoarding unsightly, but it’s also dangerous, as accidents can easily occur. As the piles of worthless stuff grow larger, every room ceases to function. What was once a normal, functional home becomes room after room of trash bins.

Mental Illness

Hoarders are not lazy but suffer from a mental condition. Hoarders usually have an abnormal brain functioning, different from non-hoarders.

So how do you recognize a Hoarder?

You hate going to visit them or if you do, you feel uncomfortable being there or you get into arguments with them about the messiness or you are afraid to eat or drink while you are there.

How can My Gal, Sal help?

I will work with you or your loved one to de-clutter their living space.   I am very aware of why people become hoarders and I am extremely sensitive to Hoarder's feelings.  I will involve the Hoarder(s) in the de-hoarding process and it will not be done in a way that will make them feel more guilty or any worse than they already feel.  I will make them a part of the process so that they still feel that they have control over their surrounding and their items.

De-Hoarding Process:

1. I evaluate your space and put a plan together to get you organized.

2. I recommend a plan of attack (usually room by room) and we decide which items are keepsakes and which are not.

3. I supply the necessary items (storage tubs, boxes, etc.)

4. I get to work.

5. I arrange for dumpster delivery or we dispose of accordingly.

6. I arrange for donation pickup and you keep the receipt!
